2016 LITERACY ROCKS! READING AND ESSAY CONTEST GUIDELINES

BWABC LITERACY ROCKS! READING CONTEST GUIDELINES (Grades K thru 5 ONLY).
• Can attend a public, private, charter, or home-school.
• Read age–appropriate books from January 29, 2016 – August 31, 2016
• Keep a reading log of each book read, author of each book, and the date you completed reading each book.
• Submit your list of books read to your teacher by Friday, September 4, 2016
• Reading logs must have parent/guardian or teacher’s signature.
• TWO First, TWO Second, and TWO Third Place winners will be chosen (one boy and one girl)

READING WINNERS RECEIVE:
• Medal
• Literacy Rocks! Reading Certificate
• Age-appropriate books plus other prizes

LITERACY ROCKS! ESSAY WRITING CONTEST GUIDELINES
(Middle and High School age students only)
• Can attend a public, private, charter, or home-school.
• Times New Roman 11 or 12 point font
• Full name, school, grade and teacher’s name must be in the top left corner of paper
• Title must be center spaced, “Why Literacy Is Important To Me”
• Essay should be Single spaced
• Minimum of 250 words for middle school students
• Minimum of 500 words for high school students
• Submit essays electronically to bwabc1@gmail.com. Include:
• Subject Line should read Literacy Essay Contest,
• Submit as a Word Document ATTACHMENT.
Teachers or guidance counselors may request BWABC to pick up essays by emailing your request to bwabc1@gmail.com
• Deadline for all entries to be received by BWABC is Friday, September 2, 2016. Entries will not be accepted after this date.
• Essays will not be returned.

ESSAY RECEIVE:
High School Grand Prize Winner receives a Cash prize, an eReader, gift card, BWABC t-shirt, age appropriate books
Middle School Grand Prize Winner will receive a Cash prize, an eReader, gift card, BWABC t-shirt
Honorable Mention Recipients will receive a Literacy Rocks! Certificate
• Winners will be listed on BWABC social media sites.

ALL Winners will be announced during the BWABC Literacy Festival, Saturday, September 17, 2016 (Memphis Cook Convention Center, 255 N. Main Street), and are asked to be present.
