Team with BWABC Literacy Association and the Bar-Kays Foundation to “promote literacy one community at a time.”

The Black Writers and Book Clubs (BWABC) Literacy Association is a nonprofit association founded by native Memphian and award winning author Shelia E. Bell. Our mission is to promote, advance, and improve literacy in the Memphis statistical area and reduce the rate of illiteracy among youth and young adults. This will be done by targeting the communities with the highest illiteracy rates. We further incorporate a free annual literacy festival to highlight the advances we have made throughout the year while teaming with authors and book clubs that share in the vision of promoting literacy one community at a time. The festival is attended by thousands each year and continues to grow.
